WINTER WONDERLAND PROM FOR TEENS/ADULTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
Sharing Down Syndrome Arizona has partnered with Task Force Archangel for the Winter Wonderland Prom, a special winter celebration for our teens and adults with special needs on Saturday, Dec. 21 from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the La Princesa Reception Hall in the West Valley.
The Winter Wonderland Prom is for anyone 13 years and older with special needs. Tickets are $20 each and food and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided. Each person attending the prom must have a ticket. Proceeds from the Winter Wonderland Prom will go back to Sharing Down Syndrome Arizona.
“This event was a big hit last year for us,” said Gina Johnson, Executive Director of Sharing Down Syndrome Arizona. “You just feel so special – you are greeted by friendly military men and women in full uniform and swords, you walk the red carpet, you enter a magical venue where you dance the night away.”
The organization hosting the event is Task Force Archangel formed by former Marines Joel Cooney and Wil Culbreth. The idea was to form a team to help raise money for any organization that actively helps others.
“This event was inspired by a post I saw on social media over two years ago – I thought, ‘I want to do that for our community.’ I reached out to the people who organized the event, and did not hear anything back from them after several attempts. So, I called on some marines I know and we got things rolling on our own. We reached out to Sharing Down Syndrome Arizona, and we hosted our first Winter Wonderland Prom in 2018. We learned a great deal in our first effort and we are confident this year’s event will be even better,” said Joel Cooney, Team Captain for Task Force Archangel.
There is a special opportunity for the ladies to get a free prom dress from The Cinderella Affair if they buy their tickets before Dec. 7. For the men, Rose Tuxedos is offering a special discount for tuxedo rentals. Tuxedos are optional. Men may also wear their own formal attire (business shirt, tie, dress pants). In addition, Paul Mitchell School of Beauty at 35th and Bethany Home (1 mile away from venue) has agreed to give free makeup and up-dos to our ladies. They are going to be taking bookings from 9am-1pm that Saturday and can accommodate about 10-12 appointments per hour.
Tickets for the event may be purchased online by clicking here. Need financial assistance or group sales? Contact Joel Cooney at taskforcearchangel@gmail.com.
